Photography experiment uses a 3D printer and LED light to produce a 'light painting'

Last year a group of students developed an electronic computer arm that, on an industrial scale, created a similar effect to this one by Indian architect Ekaggrat Singh Kalsi.
But in this case the artist has created a 3D printer modification, allowing him to "print" his light patterns in full colour, but at a more manageable scale. His experiments have been in motion for over a year, and this version lets us see a full-colour floating head that's reminiscent of scenes of sci-fi classics like Total Recall.
